This is an antique Blue Onion pattern porcelain warming dish or plate. People often identify this plate as being by Meissen, but being unable to access the underside, I cannot ascribe this to Meissen. The handled metal pan housing that would hold water has a small hole in it (see close-up photo), so the dish cannot be used as intended - you would have to have this patched somehow in order to use it as a warming dish. In addition, there is wear to the plating on the underside. The metal is stamped Germany with a mark that looks like MW, possibly for WMF (Wrtemburgische Machin Fabrik AG) who typically made these dishes. The piece measures 9 3/4 in diameter exclusive of its spout and has a height of 2 1/8. Sold AS IS, but despite the hole, this makes a wonderful display piece for an antique kitchen decor.
